The training for teachers is deplorable and yet teachers are assessed on how they integrate technology in their teaching. Students lack basic computer skills which need to be taught at the elementary level. They are experts at texting but many do not know how to use spell/check or how to create files. Staff meetings and PD days are spent discussing various testing results and how teachers must improve their teaching and evaluation techniques to improve the results. There is no talk of accountability on the part of parents or students. I especially love the comment "Humpty Dumpty seems to be in charge of curriculum development". Why should I teach the graphing of parabolas to a student who is going to most likely be a blue-collar worker? Stephen has really done his homework in finding out from those on the front lines where the issues lie.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10536145.post-18416307948137476912014-08-24T07:32:10.678-07:002014-08-24T07:32:10.678-07:00Bravo for this concise summary of unhelpful trends...Bravo for this concise summary of unhelpful trends arising from the corporate neo-liberal ideologies and the call to professionals and citizens to 'take back' their schools. One big oversight is the omission of reference to learning about the 'what' of the exponential rush to excessive human impact on the planetary home upon which all of us - even corporations and politicians - depend for their survival. Hopes for the century ahead are contingent upon grasping and acting upon this pressing reality.ojoyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11703910327490817426noreply@blogger.com
